Mud room addition
This project exemplifies how the leisurely approach to building allows for a better result. The original plan was to build a 8 x 10 mud room as a place to shed coats and snowy boots, and maybe dry off the dogs. The door entered directly into the (small) kitchen, and it was very inconvenient. The start was delayed by rain, and by the end of that two week period, the client had decided that we might as well make it bigger. Final plan was a 10 x 24 room with a cathedral ceiling. After the foundation was in, which I subbed out, I worked alone. As I worked at the framing, and the client got a better feel for the space, she made several changes, such as adding, or going with larger windows, or... With a big crew that put up the framing in a few days, these changes would have been very expensive to incorporate.
